Why Delta 8 Gummies?
Ever since the 2018 Farm bill was signed, an insane amount of hemp products have been flying off retail shelves.
The hemp plant which many people once were skeptical about has increasingly become part of our daily wellness routines.
Much of the buying frenzy began with CBD products (especially the CBD oils) but it’s since ballooned into an extensive list of cannabinoids and hemp products.
The latest cannabinoid that’s seemingly been on just about everybody’s mind is Delta-8 THC.
Delta-8 is available in a variety of forms including vapes, tinctures, topicals and edibles – but gummies have become a popular choice for many users because they’re discreet, easy to use and typically have amazing flavor profiles.
Aside from that, much of the public interest in Delta-8 has grown because of its promising health benefits.
Before we dive into the gummies themselves, I think it’s worth taking a brief step back and talking about what Delta-8 THC actually is.

What is Delta 8 THC?
When it comes to cannabis or hemp-related content, there are so many different words that get used interchangeably so much so that the whole thing gets really confusing:
- What is hemp?
- Is it the same as cannabis?
- What about THC and CBD? Are they the same?
- Are they all legal?
I like to oversimplify the differences (sometimes to a fault) but in my opinion it’s the best way to understand the cannabis plant as a whole and to get a good idea of what it is you’re really consuming especially if this is your first time.
The term cannabis refers to any variety of the plant that contains much higher levels of THC.
THC by definition is the stuff that gets you high and in the US, any product with more than 0.3% THC is considered illegal (as of the time of this writing).
Hemp on the other hand is a species of the C. sativa plant with less than 0.3% THC.
According to the 2018 Farm bill, natural hemp-derived products are considered legal.
So your CBD and in this case Delta-8 THC are actually derivatives of the hemp plant (legally speaking).
Delta-8 THC vs Delta 9
Delta 8 THC is one of the over 100 naturally occurring compounds found in the hemp plant.
Many people tend to refer to Delta-8 as the cousin of Delta-9 THC (I do so myself) but I also tend to think of them as identical twins of sorts.
At face value they look alike, act alike and have similar properties but blink again and you’ll realize you’re looking at 2 completely different things.
Delta-8 THC is a minor cannabinoid and is found in extremely small concentrations in the hemp plant meanwhile Delta 9 by contrast is the most prominent compound found in cannabis plants.
Both cannabinoids have different chemical structures based on the location of their double bond and that difference is actually the basis of their names.
Delta-8 is also much more shelf-stable than Delta-9 and they both have varying effects and different levels of interaction within the body.
If you’re new to Delta-8 or just need a detailed breakdown of what it is, how it reacts in the body and the current stance on the legal battle then I high recommend you read this post which covers everything you need to know.
Does delta 8 get you high?
The short answer is yes it does.
But the high is not the same as that of marijuana (Delta-9 THC).
Delta-8 doesn’t leave you with some of the undesirable effects such as panic attacks, anxiety or any of the paranoia like delta-9 THC.
It does cause some euphoria but it’s more of a giddy and energetic feeling and it still leaves you clear-headed enough to complete any of your daily tasks.
I found an article on Discover magazine that actually nails the description of the Delta-8 high:
Dr. Grinspoon is a leading cannabinoid expert, a board member of the advocacy group Doctors For Cannabis Regulation and is also a general practitioner at Harvard Medical School.
In the same article he also mentions that Delta-8 has potential benefits for children and elderly patients who are looking for “less confusion and spaciness or stonedness.”
Which probably also explains why many people also refer to Delta-8 THC as “THC light.”
So it can get you high but not as high as you would if you smoked some THC or consumed any other products with much higher THC levels.

How long does it take for delta 8 gummies to work?
Typically you can expect to feel the effects of the gummies between 30 to 90 minutes with a peak onset of about 3 hours.
But keep in mind those timeframes aren’t set in stone.
The time it’ll take is very subjective and often comes down to your level of tolerance and the amount you consumed.
Gummies and edibles in general have to go through the digestion process before they can be metabolized into your system.
That entire process is obviously different for everyone and when you consider the different factors that can affect digestion, it helps explain why it can hit some people quickly but take hours to kick in for other people.
What do Delta-8 THC gummies feel like?
The effects of delta 8 gummies typically aren’t instant.
Many people experience slow and gradual euphoric effects or you’ll hear it referred to as a “clear high”.
In other words it still causes a high but you’re much level headed compared to Delta-9 (marijuana) and can still be very productive for the most part of your day.
Are delta 8 gummies safe?
I’ll start this by saying this isn’t medical advice.
I 100% recommend you talk with the right medical professionals before taking any Delta-8 products.
But generally speaking, there are 2 things you need to keep in mind as far as safety goes:
- Where are you getting your products from?
- What’s your level of tolerance?
1 - Stick with High Quality Products
Goes without saying you have to always make sure you’re purchasing your gummies from transparent and highly reputable brands.
Whoever you’re purchasing any Delta-8 gummies from should be able to answer any questions you have and provide you with any information you need.
When in doubt, your best bet is going somewhere else.
2 - Your level of tolerance
Your level of tolerance plays a significant role on how well you’ll enjoy your D8 gummies.
By rule, too much of anything is never a good thing and hemp products are no exception.
If you want to mitigate any possible unpleasant effects then it’s best to start slow, pay attention to how your body reacts and never take more than the recommended amount.
At the end of the day if you stick to high quality hemp-derived and lab-tested delta 8 gummies then they should be perfectly safe to consume.
Final thoughts on Delta 8 Gummies
Many people are making the switch from Delta-9 to Delta-8 because of lesser euphoria and fewer side effects.
But truth is there’s still a lot we don’t know about Delta-8 THC and there’s still a lot of research that needs to happen for us to understand its full benefits.
If you plan on taking any Delta-8 gummies, you need to do your own diligent research and talk with your doctor or physician to get a professional opinion about how well they can fit into your routine or wellness regimen.
D8 gummies are great because they’re discrete, much more easier to consume and are generally well tolerated.
However you have to keep in mind that what works best for me might not be ideal for you.
You have to tailor your consumption to your own needs, find what works best for you and as always, use it responsibly.
In so many ways that’s the beauty of hemp products in general – there’s no one-size-fits-all.
I’ve given you a great list of Delta-8 gummies you can try today so feel free to purchase any of them and let me know how your experience goes.
If you’ve already tried any of them before, I’d also love to hear your thoughts below.
FAQ about Delta 8 THC Gummies
According to the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp and hemp-derivatives are considered federally legal as long as they don't contain more than 0.3% THC. Keep in mind your State and local laws may vary.
The suggested serving size is typically one half to a full gummy and no more than 2 per day for higher doses. Results vary, but most gummies can have a duration of three to six hours.
But as with anything else, you have to be cautious about what you're mixing together and always seek professional medical advice when need be.
So it's very possible that you could fail a drug test especially if you're a heavy consumer.
